August Tips For Professional Success

Tip for Organizations:

We have new team members. How can we help them to feel comfortable during virtual meetings?

Answer:

The team leader or senior member of the team must take the initiative to ask each new member for a short biography for distribution to the team. At the first virtual meeting, ask the current team members to introduce the new team members based on what they have read in the biographies. Allow 2 minutes for each introduction. In addition to the introduction, have the current team members share quick tips about themselves.

Communication Question:

Question:

How do I handle feedback noise during a video conference call without upsetting the person responsible for the noise?

Answer:

The team leader should have each caller mute themselves, using the process of elimination to determine the source of the noise. In this manner, everyone will have participated. When it is determined who is the problem, be sure to give clear instructions, addressed to everyone, for future use.

Presence  Question:

Question:

It is appropriate to wear masks with political slogans?

Answer:

This a difficult question to answer. In a business setting, a mask without a slogan might be more appropriate.

The Art of Business and Social Interaction®

Question:

How do you handle a person or persons not wearing masks in a closed environment?

Answer:

Wearing a mask protects those around you. Those wearing a mask protect you. My suggestion is to stay away, if possible, from individuals not wearing masks. Asking them to wear a mask may lead to a difficult, confrontational conversation, if you are prepared for the dialogue. You can also ask them if they forgot their mask.
