The Situation: Critical Thinking
Maggie has been a vice president and has tremendous capital with her senior leaders in the organization. Her teams perform. However, individually, they rarely are asked to move up in the organization. It has been determined that Maggie has difficulty giving constructive feedback that would help team members grow as leaders. Maggie rarely steps out of her comfort zone and her team tends to act the same way.
The Solution:
Maggie has been shown that when it is time to discuss issues that will help her team grow, she tends to look at their strengths. She does not encourage them in the areas that need growth. Maggie begins to understand that it is her responsibility to offer constructive feedback to help them make critical decisions. She needs to help her reports step into situations that need direct results, pointing out areas that need accountability. It is critical for Maggie to view the situation as a best practice for leadership development.
The Outcome:
Maggie realizes the confidence the senior leaders have in her. It allows her the opportunity to step out of her comfort zone to make critical decisions to help grow the organization. Maggie is now being considered for the senior vice president role in her company.
