The Situation: Long term Success or Failure
A client’s success is determined by how they receive the coaching. Below are three critical examples that represent the clients who did the work necessary and those who did not.
The Solution:
Weekly or monthly, clients and the coach set up an action plan with a goal to achieve. They plan each session with an outcome the client wishes to discuss, with the value they wish to achieve from the session. It is important to acknowledge the area that needs to be addressed when the client and coach begin the discussions. It is critical for the client to acknowledge the work necessary and to do the work. Developing a plan or strategy, acknowledging the issue, looking at ways to manage it or confront it when a situation arises, and doing the work leads to results.
The Outcome:
Some clients got in the way of themselves and had blind spots they chose not to address or even acknowledge. In some of the cases, the end result was that the client left the organization. The hope is for the clients who did not succeed, to be able to learn and find success in their next position.
The clients who did the work continued to rise to the next level in their careers. They became members of the senior management team. If they were business owners, the businesses continued to grow through their leadership. These managers were more equipped to handle the daily and long-term challenges in their businesses.
Focus on long term success but be willing to make short adjustments to get there.
