The Situation: Team Dynamics
In addition to one team member, an important client engagement needed a subject matter expert (SME) with organizational skills and strong work habits to ensure the success of the meeting. The subject matter expert is knowledgeable and has a long history with the company and in fact, has been a critical element to the firm’s success. Unfortunately, the challenge with the SME is that she never shows up on time and keeps missing practice sessions. This contributed to a sub-par first practice.
The Solution:
We practiced with and without the SME. The plan was to help the partners to present seamlessly. It was up to the team member to empower the SME to interject when needed. It was also important that all parties remain relaxed with talking points in their own voice. We knew the audience was seasoned in the subject, so the role was to enhance the company and help the client to see the best way to use the organization. The project goal was to be informative and position the organization as the go-to company for these services.
The Outcome:
The presentation was informative. It was light hearted when needed and showcased the company’s skill and knowledge. The audience clearly leaned toward the organization as a partner in future projects. It was a win for the audience and presenters.
