May Tips For Professional Success

Tip for Organizations:

We are going to a trade show as visitors, not exhibitors, and will be representing our organization. Should we dress business or business casual?

Answer:

Err on the side of formal business casual. Men can wear a dress shirt without a tie, polished style slacks, and smart dress / casual shoes. Women may wear slacks, skirt, or dress with jacket and definitely casual dress shoes. Represent yourself and the organization as professionals. Too casual indicates an excess of a social presence. Professional business casual takes it up a notch.

Communication Question:

Question:

I am a lead for a group that supports my group. We need to be a high performance team. How can we be on the same page as a virtual group and get results?

Answer:

If the team has been operating more than a few years, it is critical to hold a face to face team session quarterly or at the very least, conduct a video conference call to set expectations. Team expectations should be developed as a group and include the rules for communication and time line deliverables.

Presence  Question:

Question:

How do to I begin learning to smile after dental surgery that made it difficult for me to smile?

Answer:

Dr. Mary Ann Hollis of the Grove Dental group says regaining a smile can take anywhere from four to eight weeks. Begin to stretch your facial muscles by practicing talking and smiling with a pencil in your mouth.
