The Situation: Handling new expectations
Bill recently became an Executive Vice President, a job he long pursued. In this new role, expectations became set around responsibilities and deliverables. Since taking on the new position, additional deliverables were added and budgets were cut. Bill has been back and forth with the leader about his. How can he navigate these realities without putting his job at risk?
The Solution:
Bill has been negotiating with other stakeholders on ways to deliver expectations without asking for more funding. However, he still feels he needs more staff to meet the new expectations. Bill wants to have a conversation with the leader to ask where to obtain another resource without funds…and if funds are an absolute necessity, to discuss the next step. The desired outcome is to make this a positive move to ensure the group will produce. Bill has been advised to put the leader in his position and ask the ways the leader would proceed to acquire more funding.
The Outcome:
Bill has been able to resolve the funding issue by indicating to the leader that he understands responsibilities are changing because of new management. He wants the assure the leader that he (Bill) knows it is up to him to make his group successful.
