The Situation: Leadership – Confrontation
Megan is responsible for communications. Each of her six direct reports lead a team. The opportunity for Megan is to deliver a clear review for each of her reports on their achievements and suggest what is needed to meet the expectations of senior leaders. The difficult conversation for Megan is providing clear, constructive feedback which would be best given and received periodically during the review period not just once a year during the review.
The Solution/Action Plan:
Megan developed a strategy to create a clear goal for each of her directs. The keys are timing and really listening to each staff member in one on ones. Megan also asked each member to arrive with an agenda that included items needed from her and items they will provide their direct reports. In the past year, she has been diligent in keeping a consistent one on one schedule as well as allotting the time needed to totally listen to concerns and wins.
The Outcome:
Megan’s team posted a good 2018. The surveys reflected satisfaction with the results. She has moved several directs to better positions. Megan continues to check in with her team while senior leaders look for continued successful implementations from Megan.
