The Situation: Restructuring a group
Lorena has led this group for more than five years. The group failed to meet client expectations and has not been able to shift into the technology needed to increase efficiencies in using the system.
Lorena tried to provide support through training to help the members increase their communication and technical skills to become a high performing team. Lately, she has struggled on ways to turn the team around and is considering making drastic changes.
The Solution and Action Plan:
Lorena decided to restructure the group and replace some of the team with staff possessing the skills needed to contribute to a superior team. Lorena created a timeline to complete this restructure by the end of this year.
In this process, Lorena has delivered very difficult messages to the individuals being replaced. A second announcement was given to the full team on the strategies and skills necessary to be a group that delivered elite results.
The Outcome:
Lorena and senior management are confident that the group restructuring will result in a high performing group. Senior management is very impressed with Lorena and her professionalism and calmness while delivering tough messages.
