The Situation: Handling difficult team players
Suzanne became the new CEO of a nonprofit organization. The staff was used to managing special events for the last 15 years. The organization has a membership that is not attending these occurrences for various reasons. Suzanne wants to energize the members by getting them to attend these events.
The Solution:
Suzanne first needed to determine what worked and what needed to be done differently. She began soliciting feedback by forming a task force to review the events and determine the next steps. Once that was accomplished, she had a meeting with the staff and outlined what needed to be done. The staff was given the report early so at the retreat, they could weigh in and come up with a laundry list of items to and delegate responsibility to ensure completion.
The Outcome:
A year later, not all of the staff remained and the new staff took the plans and ran with it. The current events are not always completely attended but attendance has improved. The new and old members brought new ideas to the group to help grow the membership. Suzanne has the respect of the staff and the board members are pleased with the growth of the group.
