The Situation: Preparing for a conference opening speech
Sarah has been selected to give a state of union speech as the incoming president of this company.
The Solution:
To prepare, she has been traveling to different subsidiaries gathering stories and issues that are important to the employees. Sarah collected their comments and matched them to her road-trip talking points. The 20-minute talk also needed to include her three goals as president, address issues affecting the staff and tell the employees what she wanted them to walk away with. She must also look the part when making the speech and carry this look in all day meetings and networking situations with the board of directors.
The Outcome:
Sarah’s speech was twenty minutes long but we crafted it at 18 minutes to allow for audience reaction. The speech outlined her three goals with stories to illustrate how they impacted the company and their employees. She included a call for support as she and the board of directors tackled the changes.
Sarah decided to wear a skirt with a St. John patterned knit to add color. Because she would be talking all day, we opted for dark hose and low shoes for walking. Sarah was commended by the board for her fact filled and motivating speech.
