Tip for Organizations:
Question:
Warmer weather is upon us but we don’t want business casual to become a toss-up between too sheer fabrics for women and worn jeans and dirty gym shoes for anyone. How can we impress upon our staff to look professional and be comfortable at the same time?
Answer:
Written do and don’t guidelines for appropriate business casual with visuals would be a start. You might ask a few of the staff for input. This would give another point of view and show that you’re inclusive.
Communication Question:
Question:
How do I prevent my speech from being rambling and rushed when presenting in front of senior management? I lack the time to practice.
Answer:
The reality is that while no wants to practice, it has been proven that when you practice you will ramble less and not rush the material when it’s time for the real thing. A good way to help you know your material is to set up a time chart of your key points. Using the chart while practicing will give you a good sense of your pace and timing.
Presence Question:
Question:
I like wearing a jacket when presenting to a business casual group but have been told it looks too formal.
Answer:
You can start your introduction wearing the jacket, then as you move into the main section of the presentation, take your jacket off. This way, you will feel more formal when you begin before easing into a more casual presence for the rest of the presentation. It is important to start with a commanding presence, especially when making a request or a call to action.

Question:
How do I pay for a dinner with important clients without making them want to handle the expense?
Answer:
First of all, you want to be clear that they are your guests. Then, simply do not draw attention the bill. Pay it ahead of the time so it never comes to the table by giving the head waiter your credit card number before the dinner is over. If you have a partner at the meal, have s/he do it for you.
