March Tips For Communication & Image Success
Tip for Organizations:
Question:
We have a new manager who is going to be leading our team. How should the team introduce themselves and what should each one share about the team?
Answer:
In meeting the new manager for the first time in a team meeting, each person should be prepared to give a 30 to 60 second self-introduction. Any additional information about the team should be positive. Use the word, opportunity, as opposed to “problems or challenges” when talking about what your team is facing.
Communication Question:
Question:
How do I handle making up a presentation when the previous speaker took too much time and the group had to go to dinner?
Answer:
If you are comfortable with it, you can have your presentation videotaped (no more than 10 minutes) with positive highlights of what the audience needs to know. For example, say,” our numbers aren’t where they need to be and we are working diligently to strengthen them” instead of “we did not make our numbers in the budget”.
Presence Question:
Question:
I am starting a new position as the manager of the office. The group is very casual but I’m wondering if I should wear a suit to signal my role as their new boss?
Answer:
To encourage team building efforts you might avoid intimidating them by wearing a jacket as opposed to a matching suit. As a male manager, no jacket, but definitely a long sleeve dress shirt and tie for the first meeting.

Question:
I have scheduled a lunch with an outgoing manager, first to as a thank you and secondly, to ask for her opinion on how she sees my future with the organization. How should I begin the conversation?
Answer:
Definitely thank the manager for her support of your efforts to grow in the company and confirm she is your lunch guest.
