The Situation:
Moving up the Corporate Ladder
I first worked with Gail 15 years ago to help her analyze her closet and recommend clothing choices when she was given more responsibilities in her organization. She came back to me about five years ago when she had just been promoted to a senior management level. Gail began traveling, being the face of the company. Her social world became larger. She interfaced with board members on numerous occasions. We moved her into suits, professional and business casual and travel as well as presentation wardrobes.
Fifteen years later, Gail was promoted to head a new division, traveling internationally and working in Washington with officials as a member of the executive team of a Fortune 500 company. We needed to transition her again to ensure that peers saw her as a credible President of a new subsidiary.
The Solution:
We revisited her current wardrobe, keeping only a few pieces that could be used in more casual business situations. Then, it was onto choosing a new wardrobe with a clear senior executive presence like higher end jackets with companion skirts/pants and two power suits with elegant presence, fine fabrics and exquisite details.
We also selected new glasses, a new hair style and a few pieces of statement jewelry. We picked shoes that had a feminine yet business presence, a fine leather purse and a portfolio that could hold a file or two. We mixed up the clothing choices to ensure Gail looked and felt the part.
The Outcome:
Gail appeared with a group of men in a professional board photo. She looked classic but contemporary. Gail also felt more confident when speaking with board members and recently rang the opening bell of the NY stock exchange. She was given many compliments by the CEO and Chairman of the Board.
