Tip for Organizations:
Question:
There is a ground swell among certain divisions in the company where they appear to be almost too casual and trendy but they cite the business casual policy as their approval for this dress.
Answer:
In some cases, where divisions dress casually because it’s practical, like when the employees consistently perform manual labor, that’s acceptable. However, in situations where they represent the company, especially to outsiders, too trendy and too casual can indicate a lack of professionalism. Classic never goes out of style. Neatness and good fit in clothing will always win out over trendy and sloppy.
Communication Question:
Question:
I have a very thick accent and have been told it makes it hard for folks to understand me.
Answer:
There are some things you can do to help neutralize your accent when you are speaking:
– Put a pencil (or similar object) in your mouth length wise and read a paragraph several times out loud. Then, take the pencil out of your mouth, reading the paragraph again. This will help improve your diction.
– Speak slowly.
– Use words that are easier to pronounce for you. They will assist with smoothing your accent.
