Tip for Organizations:
Question:
How can we help some of our high potentials who are not moving to the next level because of unsuccessful interviews?
Answer:
It is critical to get a reality check by having a conversation with the interviewer on what the interviewee needs to do to ensure that the next interview is a successful one. Ask for the three most important elements that were missing. Share those with the candidate, provide support and schedule practice sessions that include videotaping. (Of course, it must be understood that all of the technical skills and experience are in place for the interviewee.)
Communication Question:
In post interviews, I want to determine why I was not the candidate of choice. However, these have been difficult because the details are often very vague. How can I get clearer answers that will help me improve my interviewing skills?
Answer:
It is important you practice the questions before you call and make sure you are not in a defensive mode. You want to begin by thanking them for their time. Let them know you want to succeed at the next interview and that this is the reason for the call. Also, tie your questions to a specific part of the interview.
Presence Question:
Question:
I had a fall which has caused me to use a cane temporarily. Do I need to explain to folks why I use one?
Answer:
It is better to casually explain up front about the use of a cane. Some folks may never say anything but it’s better to bring it up so people don’t worry about you.

Question:
I am thinking of having a barbeque at my house and inviting my manager and his spouse along with some of the folks we work with. How can I handle the invitation that will not include all of the staff? Or do I need to invite the whole group?
Answer:
If this is a group that you work with on a daily basis, I would recommend that you invite everyone unless the group is a virtual one.
