June Tips For Communication & Image Success
Tip for Organizations:
Question:
Some of our folks are in the process of putting their resumes together. Any thoughts on required format, acronym usage and if a resume can be more than one page?
Answer:
It is best to use the organization’s recognized format. The successful resumes are no more than two pages and only use acronyms if they are recognizable to the receiver. Most mistakes are due to typos and grammar errors. Think accomplishments and result driven outcomes. Best to have two or three people review the resume before sending it out.
Communication Question:
In an interview, when is the best time to hand out a resume?
Answer:
All paperwork is best handed out at the end of the interview. Handing it out in the beginning takes away from you, the subject of the interview. Another tactic is to ask the interviewer if s/he has your resume. If not, mention that you have a copy and ask if s/he would like it now or at the end of the interview. Many interviewers prefer interviewing from a resume.
Presence Question:
Question:
My current picture does not look like me because my hair style is different now and I was thinner then.
Answer:
It is important to use a picture that looks like you, otherwise do not use one. If it is required, then get a professional one taken.
The Art of Business and Social Interaction®
Question:
When first meeting a group of panelists for an interview, how can I get an understanding of how to best communicate with them?
Answer:
In your first greeting to the group, observe the way they greet you. How are their body language and facial expressions? Extroverts will always be quick to respond and introverts will hesitate a bit. So adapt your interactions to both in the way to respond to questions. This will help build a rapport with each.
