November Tips For Communication & Image Success
Tip for Organizations:
Question:
Some members of our team have been asked to be considered for various positions but they haven’t been successful getting them. Can you offer some tips that will help us ace the interviews?
Answer: The three critical elements your people should have down pat when preparing for a successful interview are:
1. They need to have a succinct, personal, foundational talking point story that profiles who they are that is not part of their resume. 2. They must be clear on what they will bring to the position they are interviewing for. 3. They need to be completely aware of the affect they are having on the person they are interviewing with by carefully observing his/her body language and facial expressions and listening to what is unsaid.
Communication Question:
Question:
How important is it to practice before an interview?
Answer: It usually takes me more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech. Mark Twain
It is very rare for a person to ace an interview without practice. Practice is critical. It helps you hear yourself, answer critical questions and helps strengthen your confidence. The more you practice the better you will be able to answer any tough questions.
Presence Question:
Question:
In interviewing for my next position, the group is very casual. Can I get away without wearing a jacket?
Answer:
For both men and women, you do not have to wear a full suit but I strongly recommend a jacket. You can always remove the jacket. For men, a shirt and tie will depend on the industry norms.

Question:
In an interview for a new position, how personal can the small talk get?
Answer:
My recommendation is keeping the personal aspect out of any small talk unless the interviewer begins with some personal questions. If that happens, I would still keep your answers at a professional, social level. No dark secrets or issues should come up until you go for the second interview and then only if it will impact the organization.
