September Tips For Communication & Image Success

Tip for Organizations:

Question:
We are getting ready to have a first time photo taken of our work unit. What are some guidelines we should consider? This photo will be used as an external promotional piece for our trade magazine.

Answer:
The group photos that look polished and positively impact viewers include folks who are wearing coordinating color choices. In the more formal photos both men and women are wearing jackets or suits, slacks and skirts in non-completing colors. If the organization has company logoed shirts, be sure they fit well for the various body types. (You can pin them in the back so they don’t look baggy.)

Communication Question:

Question:                                                                                                                                                                                      How can I respond to a question about a process when the group is looking for a positive response but I know the answer will be negative?

Answer:
It is important to be truthful even if the answer is not what is expected. How you can turn it around is to recommend a solution. Also, position it by asking their thoughts on it. At the same time, recognize that the folks responsible for the project are doing the best they can.

Wardrobe Question:

Question:                                                                                                                                                                        How often should one retake take their company photo?

Answer                                                                                                                                                                               Typically, maximum photo life is about four years but only for folks who have a signature hairstyle or eye wear that defines them. Changing your picture every two years keeps your photo current in the eyes of the public.

Question:                                                                                                                                                                          How do you handle meeting someone whose photo does not look like them because of weight gain or plastic surgery?

Answer:                                                                                                                                                                              It’s best not to not bring it up all. If the reaction is very visual, you can use the excuse that you are wearing old or need new eyewear.
