August Tips For Communication & Image Success

Tip for Organizations:

Question:

We have a group of folks who will soon be interviewing. What should they be most aware of?

Answer:

It is important to engage the interviewer and adapt to his/her style of communication. Observe if s/he asks questions quickly or deliberately. Watch the body language and eye contact. Get into the rhythm of the speech of the interviewer.

Also, asking a question is more important than delivering a monolog.

Communication Question:

Question:

When I am nervous I begin to ramble – How do you recommend I control this?

Answer:

Take a deep, slow breath and then repeat the question. For example, if the question is: What was one of your highlights from last year? After a taking a breath, you would answer: One of my highlights from last year was…

Wardrobe Question:

Question:
Is it important to wear a full suit to an interview?

Answer:

It is important to know the culture of the group. In some cases, a jacket with a companion pair of slacks or skirt may be better suited for an interview.

The Art of Business and Social Interaction®

Question:
Is it appropriate to ask the interviewer about their family background?

Answer:

In the first set of interviews, it is not protocol. If you are in the final interview with who you will be working with, it may be a good way to learn more about the person.
