November Tips For Communication & Image Success
Tip for Organizations:
Question:
Some members of our team have been asked to be considered for various positions but they haven’t been successful getting them. Can you offer some tips that will help us ace the interviews
Answer:
It is important that interviewees be passionate and understand the role they are interviewing for. They need to be able to articulate what they bring to the table, how they will make a difference to the bottom line and why they should be hired. They must radiate confidence and be able to easily answer questions. Practice, including making and reviewing a videotape as an interviewee, can help ace the process.
Communication Question:
Question:
I have a difficult time speaking, even with friends. I tend to be very quiet and need time to think before I speak. Please offer suggestions on how I can be more adept at engaging in conversation.
Answer:
Engage your mouth muscles! This means reading out loud to yourself and talking while driving. Other fun ways to get accustomed to speaking is to join an organization like Toastmasters or to take an Improv class.
Presence Question:
Question:
I have a very expressive face and my feelings are all too obvious when I agree or disagree with something. How can I control my facial expressions especially in a meeting?
Answer: Have a videotape session where you can actually see your facial expressions and tie them back to a physical feeling. Also, when mingling with friends and family, have them call your attention to your expressions. This will increase your awareness of them.
The Art of Business and Social Interaction®
Question:
I have a difficult time speaking with senior management during a networking event or even in the elevator. I never know what to say about what I am doing at work.
Answer:
Believe it or not senior management members are just like you. The key element is not to sell yourself to them but just simply engage as you would with anyone else. Start with a smile and a hello. Then say, let me introduce myself. I am_______ and I am responsible for_____. Practice will help create a smooth interaction.
